Report Summary:
Life has hardly been normal over the last couple of years. Our lives were upended when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 and its still around today, though we’re adapting to living with the existence of the virus. The pandemic had a dramatic impact on photo-taking in 2020 with travel restrictions and event cancelations, but there was an increase in photos taken in 2021 as restrictions were lifted and people started going to events and traveling again.
Rise Above Research expects that despite the surge in the Omicron COVID-19 strain that there will be another increase in photos taken worldwide in 2022. The Omicron variant has not shut everything down as COVID did in 2020, and we expect that many people will be traveling, taking vacations, and holding events this year. This will lead to an 8% increase in photos taken this year to around 1.5 trillion photos worldwide.
This report is based on the Rise Above Research Worldwide Image Capture Forecast. It includes:
- Estimates of photos taken globally for the years 2021 to 2026
- The shares of photos taken by smartphones, cameras, and tablets
- Which regions of the world are most photo-active
- The cumulative number of unique photos saved
